Capacity development and process guidance on the application of the Climate Resilience Implementation Plan for Spatial Planning (CRISP)

Potential climate/ disaster impacts addressed by approach & Justification for approach:

Climate-related impacts are already threatening the urban functions of various cities in South Africa. Cross-sectoral and participatory planning approaches, which strategically take those risk factors into account are often not applied. Capacities which could foster the application are not yet existent in the city administration.

Process of Implementation:

In Durban, the city administration was trained and guided to apply the methodology developed by the project for climate-friendly urban development with the participation of numerous offices (including urban planning, environment, and transport) to develop a climate resilience plan with concrete measures.
