Potential climate/ disaster impacts addressed by approach & Justification for approach:
C&D waste management was never considered an issue but with rapid urbanization and increased construction, management of C&D waste has become a challenge for city administration. The waste is getting dumped in water bodies and other low lying areas in the city leading to issues of urban flooding that many Indian cities are facing these days.
Process of Implementation:
1. A gap assessment study was conducted and based on which recommendation and way forward was shared with city for improvement of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste management. 2. Based on the result of the gap analysis, a by-law for C&D waste management was prepared for the city of Coimbatore 3. C&D waste quantification and characterization study for city of Bhubaneswar was conducted 4. A concept for GHG Monitoring, reporting and verification system for C&D waste was developed and it was also included in the C&D waste by-law
