Engagementos of municipalities and matropolitan region in climate adaptation and resilience building

Potential climate/ disaster impacts addressed by approach & Justification for approach:

The State of São Paulo is divided in 645 municipalities and 8 metropolitan regions. The Resilient Municipalities Project aims to engage the municipalities in elaborating their municipal and regional plans for climate adaptation and resilience.

Process of Implementation:

The Secretary of Environment SEMIL and ProAdapta discussed the methodology for municipal plans for climate adaptation and resilience. They elaborated a technical step-to-step guide for cities and regions for developing their adaptation plans. Two pilots were carried out with 13 widespread municipalities and a 1 metropolitan region to analyze the main climate risks and prioritize adaptation measures. The upscaling for all 645 municipalities and regions of São Paulo is planned for 2023/24.
