Pre-feasibility study for green spaces and urban infrastructure

Potential climate/ disaster impacts addressed by approach & Justification for approach:

The citizens of Palmas are exposed to climate-related hazards, in particular flooding and heatwaves. Linear parks prevent the degradation of river banks and waterbodies, improve urban drainage, reduce erosion, heat island effects and watershed flooding. Moreover, they offer many co-benefits: Environmental: reduction of emissions, restoration and recovery of ecosystems, improvement of water quality and availability. Social: Improvement of the population's quality of life and security through well-maintained green public spaces in which leisure and sport activities are promoted. Economic: Income generation opportunities for local businesses.

Process of Implementation:

After shortlisting the city, the Gap Fund conducted a detailed assessment taht was approved by the TS. The team prepared a ToR with the city and later on, the TA was implemented and supervised by the GF team. Throughout the process, all relevant stakeholders were engaged.
