Potential climate/ disaster impacts addressed by approach & Justification for approach:
The risk of flooding and heatwaves in Rio de Janeiro and Campinas is expected to be exacerbated due to climate change and urban expansion into wetlands. The creation of linear parks as a Nature-based Solution (NbS) aims at the socio-environmental requalification of the territory, bringing benefits related to the mitigation of extreme events such as increased soil permeability, availability of flood areas, air quality and heat islands, in addition to ensuring universal accessibility, a feeling of belonging of the population and intensifying active mobility, providing the population with sports and leisure equipment.
