Pre-feasibility study for a hybrid coastal protection measure

Potential climate/ disaster impacts addressed by approach & Justification for approach:

The city of Savusavu is exposed to sea level rise (6 mm/year since 1993) and coastal erosion, which is increasing the intensity of cyclones. Sea level rise and coastal erosion are expected to increase over time. There is little remaining land between the foreshore and the road, which creates unsafe conditions for pedestrians and drivers. Coastal protection is meant to ensure climate adaptation over time. The blue town model strives to serve as a scalable model and blueprint for other cities in Fiji and other countries.

Process of Implementation:

After shortlisting the city, the Gap Fund conducted a detailed assessment taht was approved by the TS. The team prepared a ToR with the city and later on, the TA was implemented and supervised by the GF team. Throughout the process, all relevant stakeholders were engaged.
