Potential climate/ disaster impacts addressed by approach & Justification for approach:
The project aims at solving the problem of decline and loss of potential of small rivers of the city of Vinnytsia. The protection and rehabilitation of the river will create a natural corridor between two big protected areas - forest and city park. It will also address challenges related to heat waves and flooding, which affects local resident of two residential areas (located on both sides of the river). The main objectives of the project are: 1) To sensitize the urban community about the natural resource in the form of small rivers. 2) To involve the urban community in active participation in decision-making regarding the small rivers and areas around. 3) To implement a demonstration project on the comprehensive revitalization of the small rivers Diohtianets and Diohtianchyk. 4) To record the experience gained in working with small rivers during the demonstration project in the form of a methodology for further use and dissemination of acquired knowledge and skills for the whole small rivers network in the city and other cities. 5) To create an open geographic information system with a map of small rivers to monitor their condition.
Process of Implementation:
Currently, ongoing project idea development for separate parts of the river (one test zone is in process of implementation)
